Evergreen Future Campaign

Evergreen Future is a Washington Conservation Voters campaign to push candidates and elected officials across the state to support bolder environmental action.

Polling commissioned by WCV shows this is a winning issue in 2020:

  • 7 in 10 Washingtonians support Evergreen Future's policy platform

  • Nearly 3 in 5 voters say that a candidate who supports Evergreen Future would be more likely to get their vote

WCV will provide candidates with in-depth education about policy goals and support them as they work to build better policies for our state. Together we can take bold climate action, protect workers, and invest in communities across the state.

Right now, we are witnessing what it feels like without leadership at the national level. Whether it is responding to coronavirus, tackling climate change, or seeking justice for frontline communities, it has never been more important to elect strong state and local leaders. We know Washington is ready to take bold climate action that commits to environmental justice. We can be a leader for the whole country to follow.

Why is this necessary?

As we recover from economic recession and seek justice for frontline communities, we need leaders who prioritize public health, protect workers, and invest in policies that address climate change, clean up toxic pollution, and restore our forests and waters.

After years of electoral work, we now have a strong climate and environmental majority in the House, but the Senate is still unwilling to take bold aggressive action on major bills like a clean fuel standard. Washington needs more leaders who are ready to work at the scale and urgency of the enormous challenges we face. And the public needs to know who is going to stand up for them.

Listening to Science

The immediate crisis of COVID-19 has clearly illustrated what happens when science and the experts are ignored and the institutions we rely on to protect us are weakened. We need leaders who use science, prepare for foreseeable challenges like the climate crisis, and act swiftly to tackle the problems we face and serve the most vulnerable.

How does this change WCV’s work?

This gives WCV more tools to endorse, support, and hold candidates accountable.

  • We will ask elected leaders and those running for office to support the Evergreen Future platform

  • We will hold people accountable to progress toward goals during and after legislative sessions, and build grassroots and voter support for progress throughout the year

  • We will leverage our endorsement process; candidates’ support of the Evergreen Future goals will be factored in our decision-making

  • We will prioritize investments in electoral races with candidates who are committed to bold climate and environmental action

  • We will ask our donors and other key supporters to leverage their influence, so candidates are being asked about their position on the Evergreen Future platform
